Violet's First Birthday!

Our loud, silly, sweet baby girl turned one on June 2. We had a little family party for her.  She opened presents first.  She liked all her presents and did pretty well getting out the presents that were in gift bags.  Then we sang to her and gave her a "smash cake" shaped like a giant cupcake.  The frosting was pretty thick and yummy, so she didn't really get to the cake inside.  She didn't get as messy as I thought she would, but at one point she did try to lift up the cake. After that, we went outside for water balloons, squirt guns, and the water table.  We got her a baby swing to go on our swing set and a book.  She also got a Snow White doll from Jace because it's her favorite princess, a puzzle, a xylophone, a singing lamp, a corn popper, a pink car, a crawling bear, a little wagon, some bracelets, and a Barbie.
This month Vioet learned to climb stairs and pull up to standing on furniture.  I have heard her say "baby" a few times while pointing at a baby. Her hair is getting little curls on the side. More teeth are trying to come through in the back, but haven't quite broken through yet. She likes to shoot the basketball in the hoop (we hold her up there) and then clap when she makes a shot. She likes reading stories more and crawls over to sit on my lap to play. She is starting to give hugs and kisses more, even to her stuffed animals. When Amos gets home from work, she gives him a huge smile and starts waving to him.  She still fusses very loudly if she wants something or doesn't like what someone is doing.  She is kind of wild sometimes when we change her diaper or try to get her dressed.

South Mountain Hike

One Saturday, we hiked South Mountain in Herriman.  It was the farthest Jace had ever hiked, and he did a great job.  It was a little over an hour up (mostly switchbacks so not too steep).  Then we had a little snack at the top before we headed back down.  Violet liked the hiking backpack and pointed at the trees and flowers we saw along the way.
