We have a one year old!

Jace is now a one year old.  He is so adorable.  At his one year doctor check-up he weighed 18 pounds 3 ounces and is 30.5 inches tall.  That is 2nd percentile for weight and 73 percentile for height.  He had to get 4 shots for immunizations which is always sad for me.  He is imitating a lot of sounds and words now.  New words he has said/knows this month include: shoot (shoo), spoon (poo), bubble (which is what he calls a ball, bottle, balloon, and light), ball, and cracker (ca ca- which is also how he says tractor). He likes to point at everything. He teases us with his food by acting like he is going to give it to us and then yanking it away and putting it in his own mouth.  He is starting to pull up on things and wanting to climb...still not too interested in walking.  Recently he has been a little clingy toward Amos and me.  He is also starting to fuss more when he doesn't get what he wants.  Oh the joys of not being able to communicate with words.

This last year has been so amazing and we are so happy.  I will write about his birthday parties in another post.  Amos made the one sign in the pictures.  He also had a good idea to paint cars on the back so that Jace would want to look at the back instead of the front.

California vacation with the Tysvers

In October our friend Jordan Tysver texted Amos and told him they had four tickets to a Jazz vs. Lakers game at the Staples Center in February and asked if we would like to come.  I didn't think he was totally serious because they would have a 2 month old baby at that point.  I called Anne to ask if they were serious and ask details about the trip.  Well we decided to go. It was short trip but very fun.  We got there on Saturday, February 8th in the afternoon and Jordan came to pick us up at the LAX airport.  Jace did okay on the plane.  We tried to put him down for a nap after the plane took off but he didn't want to sleep so he got fussy.  We stopped trying to get him to sleep and gave him a snack and he did pretty well after that.  It good have been better but could have been worse. It took about 45 minutes to get to their house from the airport.  Anne had made dinner for us which was nice.  Their house is super cute. The next day we decided to go to the Santa Monica Pier.  I have never been there before.  We went to Bubba Gump's for lunch.  Then we went on the Ferris wheel at the end of the pier.  It overlooks the ocean.  The views were beautiful.  After that we went to a small aquarium, and then we went to the beach to look at the ocean.  Amos took of his shoes and went in to the ocean and carried Jace with him so Jace could see the water close up.  The temperature while we were there was very nice- low 70's.  On Monday we hung out at their house.  Tuesday was the basketball game.  I was super nervous to leave Jace with Anne's mom.  I was worried he wouldn't drink his bottle before bed, or he would be sad after we left and he realized we weren't putting him to bed, or worse that he would wake up after a few hours and want to eat and freak out when Anne's mom came in.  Luckily, none of that happened.  He went to sleep really well and didn't wake up.  That was a huge relief for me.  The tickets to the game were VIP tickets. We got to park at a parking lot pretty close to the Staples center.  We were able to eat dinner in the Lexus club. We sat on the patio and ate a fancy/expensive buffet.  They even had candy you could take with you to the game.  The seats we sat in were slightly padded and had a really good view.  Neither team is very good, but the Jazz won.  Overall we had a really great night.  The only thing disappointing about the trip was that I didn't feel well.  I kept going to bed super early so we didn't end up playing games or anything.  Anne wanted to go to bed early to because she worked in the mornings and had to get up early to feed her baby.  Sadly, her baby Jackson slept longer through the night than Jace.  Jackie (Jackson) is a super mellow baby.  Their daughter Teagen was super sweet to Jace.  She kept giving him hugs, kisses, and pats on the back.  Teagen is obsessed with Minnie Mouse so she kept talking about her the whole time.  She calls her Mimis.  She would say, "Night night Jace" and "Where Jace go?"  We would love to visit them again soon and go to Disneyland.  On the way back Jace did well on the plane even though we had to wake him up two hours early to go.  Of course he didn't fall asleep in the car or on the plane ride, but just as the plane was landing in Salt Lake he fell asleep.
On a side note, Jace is almost one and still not even close to sleeping through the night.  We are so tired all the time.  I think the time has come for us to make him "cry it out." It makes me sad even to think about it.  We bought a video monitor yesterday so that we could see him and make sure he isn't crying because he is hurt or something.  I hope it isn't too horrible. Wish us luck.
