Painting Pumpkins

This is Jace's first time painting pumpkins.  Lots of paint ended up on the floor, his body, and our pumpkins.

Hiking

I had today off for Fall Break so Amos took the day off too.  We decided to go on a hike.  Amos found one called  The Living Room Trail near Red Butte Gardens.  It was a great day to go because the temperature was fairly warm and the leaves on the trees are different colors.  The "living room" is made out of sandstone rocks.  Someone took the pieces and made them into chairs and couches that you can sit on and look over the valley.  The hike was pretty steep, and Amos carried Jace in a hiking backpack. It was a good workout.

Wheeler Farm

On Saturday we went to Wheeler Farm with my family for the Halloween festivities.  We went on a tractor ride, through a hay bale maze, and got a pumpkin.  The weather was great and we had a good time.

First Camping Trip

Our ward was having a ward camp-out pretty late in the year (Sept.26).  I did not want to go for a variety of reasons. First, I never sleep well camping.  I can hear other people snoring or children crying, or my own husband snoring and it keeps me awake.  I did not want to take a 1.5 year old camping because I did not think he would sleep, thought he might get scared, and thought he would be cold.  Also, the weather was supposed to be rainy that weekend.  Well, Amos signed us up to go even though I didn't want to and we went.  It wasn't as bad as I expected, but it wasn't great.  Jace liked walking around outdoors, seeing the campfire, and sitting in peoples' camping chairs.  Since it was overcast the sky was dark so we put him to bed about his normal bedtime.  He fell asleep in about 45 minutes with no fussing or anything.  We set up his pack 'n play in the tent and put blankets all around it and in it.  During the night a huge rainstorm accompanied by lots of close lightning and thunder came our way.  I thought for sure Jace would get scared because the flashes of light and loud thunder were so close.  I don't think he even woke up.  I didn't hear any kids crying.  They all slept through it!  I don't know how they could sleep through all that.  Jace was happy when he woke up in the morning.  He didn't seem to think it was weird that we were all together in a tent or anything.  Luckily, the camp had a lodge for us to go into that had a big rec room, a kitchen, and flushing toilets (thank goodness!).  We were able to have breakfast and play around in the rec room while it was raining outside.  Even though many of the ward members didn't end up coming because it was raining, we still had a good time.  Amos had to pack up all our stuff while it was still sprinkling outside so our tent is still probably wet.  We didn't remember to take very many pictures.

This picture shows melted marshmallow on Jace's hoodie that one of the other kids got on him.  He is also holding a giant roasting marshmallow to take to Daddy.
